IoTeX, a technology company based in Silicon Valley that combines blockchain and trusted hardware to build privacy-oriented device ecosystems for the Internet of Trusted Things, today announced the public launch of its award-winning Ucam home security camera on the eve of the CES Conference, which runs from January 7-10 in Las Vegas. Ucam is now available for pre-order.

“The launch of Ucam is a tremendous milestone for the development of trusted devices and the Internet of Trusted Things,” said Co-founder Jing Sun. “We’ve all seen so many stories and reports of people’s sensitive data being manipulated or misused, and this risk is heightened by the emergence of so many Internet-connected household devices. Ucam is the first smart home product built specifically to preserve privacy and trust, so people can have more peace of mind.”

Ucam, the first smart device powered by IoTeX’s privacy-centric blockchain platform, is a next-gen home security camera that is user-centric and fully private. Equipped with premium features, including 1080p HD video, motion detection, night vision, and two-way audio, Ucam allows users to conveniently monitor their homes from anywhere at any time. More importantly, Ucam makes several important privacy breakthroughs for consumers. In addition to end-to-end encryption of all content, Ucam employs blockchain-based identity, which is far stronger protection against brute-force hacking than the user-generated passwords that have been a key target in recent high-profile home camera breaches. Ucam enables private video streaming and places full ownership of its data in the hands of users, who can flexibly set their own storage parameters. Ucam owners, rather than corporations or Cloud service providers, have data freedom because they own and control all of the data the camera produces. The combination of these features makes Ucam a significant step forward over existing home security cameras in terms of safety and privacy.

IoTeX is one of only a few companies using blockchain technology to have been selected for the 2020 CES Innovation Award, which is issued by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the world’s premier consumer technology organization. Ucam was honored alongside products from HP, Samsung, and Sony, as well as other cutting-edge startups.

“The CES Innovation Award is an important validation and recognition both of the groundbreaking technology that went into developing Ucam, and the broader importance of the problem IoTeX is solving,” said Co-founder Raullen Chai. “If all our devices are connected, but we aren’t able to trust them, we will remain highly vulnerable. That’s why we need to build the Internet of Trusted Things, starting with protecting our data and privacy.”

Ucam is part of a suite of privacy-focused hardware and software products being developed by IoTeX both independently and in partnership with leading hardware innovators. It is the first hardware product to run on IoTeX’s blockchain-based platform, which is designed to integrate with a broad range of connected devices, including those developed by third parties. Looking forward to the rest of 2020, the company will continue its rollout of privacy-focused products and services for the Internet of Trusted Things to guarantee security, trust, and privacy between people and their devices.
